Cómo preparar un gin tonic perfecto en 4 pasos

How to prepare a perfect gin and tonic in 4 steps

Hello Bunkers!!

If at all your friends' gatherings, family meals or barbecues, when the time comes for a gin and tonic, it's your time... this post is ideal for you. As we are going to demystify the way to prepare them.

First of all, choosing a good gin, which in our case, and on which we are going to base ourselves to follow the correct preparation guidelines, is BUNKER .

Both BUNKER and BUNKER ORIGEN are a great option, since as you know, both are premium artisanal gins from the London Dry category.

Before explaining it step by step, I'll leave you with a video in which you can see the correct way to prepare it, just like Julio does in his Majestic Premium Bar in León, or Sergio Calero in his Café Coctelería Merynat in Portugalete, let's get started!!

1.- Gin Tonic glass and amount of ice.

  • A balloon glass is ideal, as its opening allows the delicious aromas hidden in the gin to be released.
  • It must be cold , so if you have not previously chilled it, add ice and stir it for a few seconds with the help of an imperial spoon to transfer the cold to the glass.

This will generate water, which we must get rid of with the help of a worm strainer.

MYTH: It's fine to prepare it in a highball glass. This is not correct, as this type of glass does not have enough capacity to incorporate the ice, gin and tonic in one go. The minimum capacity of the container you choose for your Bunkertonic should be 50 or 60 cl , while the classic highball glass only has a capacity of 30 cl.

Remember that both the gin and the tonic must also be cold, especially the tonic , whose perfect temperature will be about 4 to 6ºC .

2.- How Much Gin Should I Put in the Gin Tonic?

If we want to fully enjoy everything that Bunker has to offer, the correct measurement is 5 cl , since this quantity already contains the necessary flavor and aroma to make us fall in love with just one sip.

This measurement matches the top of the Jigger .

MYTH: "The more the better, add, add so it tastes better!" NOOOOOOOOO!!

This is one of the big mistakes, but don't worry, it's not your fault... it's one of the most commercial gins, which, as it has no charisma or flavour, you have to pour a large quantity for the gin and tonic to have any flavour.

3.- How to Serve and Which Tonic to Choose to Prepare a Gin Tonic?

  • There is a wide range of tonics, each with different nuances. Here our recommendation is to invite you to discover and experiment with them, but always looking for those that do not mask the rich flavors and aromas of the gin.
  • The crux of the matter is how to serve it. Ideally, you want to avoid breaking the bubbles as much as possible, so if you pour it carefully over the ice cubes on top , you'll be doing great!

MYTH: Shake the tonic and puncture the bottle cap so that the tonic comes out under pressure through the hole. The result is spectacular... but this way the tonic loses its gas, which is meant to enhance the flavours.

Pouring the tonic, very nice... but we are making the same mistake of breaking the bubble.

4.- How should my Gin Tonic be decorated?

  • Bunker already has all the flavour you'd expect from an exceptional gin , thanks to the use of 100% natural botanicals and free of any kind of sugar or additives . That's why we recommend filling this #bunkertonic with a simple twist (peeling it as thinly as possible, without reaching the white part of the fruit, which would add bitterness) of lemon that will add freshness, or orange that adds a slight sweetness.
  • The correct way is to tear the peel over the glass, so that the juices from the fruit (lemon or orange) rest on the cocktail.

MYTH: Adding real fruit salads to the gin and tonic! This adds very little and in some cases, depending on the fruit or vegetable you add (e.g. cucumber...) they mask the entire smell and taste of the spirit. And they are also elements that make the bubbles in the tonic disappear.

And on the other hand, adding botanicals to the cocktail, since when it is so cold, the essential oils are not released, and the only thing we get is floating elements in our glass that bother us when taking a sip.

It doesn't matter if you haven't been doing it the right way up until now, but if for some reason your way of drinking the cocktail is different, I invite you to try it the way we recommend before continuing with the custom!!

Thank you Bunker@s for getting here, now you have the power to prepare the best Gin and Tonics in the world!!
